The Light of the Gospel Church – Dobropillia, Ukraine
This church is located very close to the front lines of the war in Donbas, Ukraine. After having been forced to leave their home for about a year, Pastor Ihor and his family returned to rebuild their lives and to re-open the church. Their ministries include providing support to refugees (more than 2000 since 2014), caring for the poor and disabled, and Summer Camp ministries.
Seeing so many people in need, the congregation opened “Martha’s Kitchen” which provides baking and badly needed food to residents. They are also praising God for the new filter station that HART helped to build to purify water from the church’s 78-meter-deep well. Thousands of residents are now receiving help from the 6000 litres of water that are drawn daily from this source. With this water supply, the church is now offering showers and a service called “Pure Heart” – a laundry service for the poor and the military. While the church building is small, Sunday services are so crowded now that it’s hard for people to find a seat.
Pastor Ihor’s congregation plans to continue to care for the many families in their town who have lost loved ones in the war. They want to start a children’s ministry to support low-income families and to show them the way to Christ.
