Paul & Ruth Workentine

Ruth & Paul have been serving full time in missions since 1981 when they were accepted to serve in Mali, West Africa, with Gospel Missionary Union (now Avant Ministries). They came back to Canada in 1995 due to a serious illness in their family and had to stay home as a result of that illness. God directed them towards a ministry in Canada working with international students (ISMC). They recognized that God had brought the mission field to them with the potential of reaching many countries through these students. They have taken on many different roles in ISMC, but currently are working with international students at Mount Royal University and others who have joined them along the way. Their desire is to befriend them, love them unconditionally and share His love with them so they become fully devoted followers of Christ. One important ministry is their FOCUS Club which is Friendship for Overseas College & University Students. During the school year they meet once a week, sharing food with them and providing opportunities to practice English. The students are invited into homes for meals as well as plan a variety of activities together. Since the majority of the students are Japanese, Paul & Ruth have been able to connect a number of them to a Japanese church in Calgary. Many of the volunteers come from Lakeview Baptist, which has now merged with CSC South Campus. Ruth & Paul are delighted that South Campus will welcome these international students once the church is ready in September. They trust & pray that many members will catch the vision of reaching the world that has come to them.
