Jesus is the Bread of Life Church – Chornobaivka, Ukraine
Pastor Serhii and his wife Olena (and their congregation) are working hard to provide critical help to their local community (which consists of 8 villages (about 17,000 people) in and around their hometown in the Kherson region). As of the writing of this report, their community is within 12 km of the frontline fighting. Their work is a lifeline for people living under constant threat of missile attack and enemy occupation. Despite the dangers, they continue to provide programs for people of all ages and strive to minister to the military personnel in their area. Their relief work has included assisting and evacuating people whose homes were flooded when the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed.
The church is assisting refugees with clothing, hygiene products, bedding, household appliances, food, and supplies for heating homes. They have assisted many residents in rebuilding after their homes have been damaged by shelling. That work has extended to providing temporary modular homes for people to live in while repairs are taking place. The church has also helped rebuild a neighboring church from scratch where 70 people are now gathering to worship. They have been instrumental in uniting and mobilizing the local population, providing support to local officials and medical personnel (as well as bringing Christian leaders of different denominations together for prayer meetings and aid distribution).
The congregation is planning to expand their rebuilding efforts. Pastor Serhii asks for prayer for safety as they continue to hold services very close to the conflict. They also desire prayer for wisdom in serving God, for the Lord to lift their spirits and to take away fear, and for the ability to effectively bring the Word of God to the military.
